Bio:I have always been of the opinion "Less is More". When I first started to play drums I had 1 kick drum, 1 rack tom, 1 floor tom, 1 snare drum, 1 cymbal and 1 hi-hat. By todays standard, thats a fairly small drumset. Over the years I have drummed in several bands playing music from Status Quo to Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles to R.E.M. but just couldnt find my niche.
By the age of 14, I had been introduced to the NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) listening to bands such as Diamond Head and Steve Vai until one day a friend put a Metallica album on my CD player, well I just sat there and thought, "WTF!! No-one can play drums that fast!!" - that song was "Dyers Eve" off of the "...And Justice for All" album. I immediately went out, bought all their albums and books and started reading up on their history, tours, equipment - but how could I play their songs on a kit so small??
This only led to me getting more and more into the genre and furthering my CD collection with Megadeth, Slayer, Machine Head, Dream Theater, etc etc. Ever since that day, I have been hooked on Metal trying to better my drumming skills and vary the drumming influences in my life along with verying the bands I listen to, to try and create my own style of drumming. Now 14 years on from that day, I find myself changing that "Less is More" opinion to "More is More". Small drumkit, pfffff!
